Nick and Jonathan Coulton Might Be Giants

RE: Your Brains

This morning began with me attempting to convince myself to skip my CompSci lab. Midway through, it featured me literally listening to Code Monkey while programming. It ended with me meeting and working with the man who wrote that song.

Me and JoCo

So how did that happen? Simply put: twitter.

Little more detail. JoCo announced on his twitter that he needed a merch guy for his show tonight. I responded immediately, and guess what folks; he picked me. Dude effing picked me to work for him for the night. Stoaked. Still am. It’s crazy.

Anyway, I show up, get taken backstage to meet him. We talk for a bit, dude is as hilarious as he is humble, and overall just a truly awesome human being. He gives me the money and the table, and I sell some shit. I mean I sell the shit out of that shit. Okay, I sold some, it was a good night overall.

On top of that, his show was awesome, as was They Might Be Giants. But Coulton stole the show, getting a huge reception from the crowd, especially on the two top performances, Mr Fancy Pants and RE: Your Brains, literally encouraging us to sing worse because “zombies would not sing well.”

Overall, the show was great, meeting JoCo even greater, and he and the Giants both threw some free swag my way. Honestly, it was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and truly an experience to remember. I can’t wait for him to come back to Birmingham (and maybe let me help out again?!”. Coulton is funny, humble, and pretty much how I pictured him being. He even laughed when I texted him…while standing next to him…Dude’s awesome, buy a cd or something, he definitely deserves it.

Also, got a whole gallery of pictures below. Check ‘em out.

And to think I contributed to this by telling you yes, you should go for it while I was in the bathroom no less. Something that drives me crazy, and it got you an awesome opportunity. I wish I could have done it too, but I needed to be at class and pick stuff up. I'm so happy you had so much fun. I'm so glad you did it.
