Joe Webb Tops Everyone at UAB Pro Day

by Nick Salyers on Mar.12, 2010, under Entertainment, Football, Ranting, Sports, UAB

Joe Webb, the QB turned Wide Receiver, did not receive an invite to the NFL combine, even after earning a bid to the Senior Bowl, but that didn’t stop him from literally outperforming all of the other athletes at the NFL Combine at UAB’s pro day in front of several prominent NFL scouts.

SENIOR BOWL SOUTH

Joe posted a vertical jump height of 42.5 inches, better than any WR at the combine, and a long jump height of 11 feet, 5 inches, also better than any other WR at the combine.  He put up 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, 1 better than any other WR at the combine, and his 4.43 40 yard dash time is 5th amongst receivers and seventh overall (best amongst quarterbacks), while maintaining the biggest frame and wingspan of all receivers at the combine.  Are you sensing a trend here?

shoeless

What it boils down to is, Joe Webb has every single last tangible characteristic imaginable: He’s big, strong, fast, and athletic, while being a proven leader, an unselfish teammate, and a hard worker. Is he the best athlete in the draft at the wide receiver position? No. But he is the best athlete in the draft, period, and that’s a fact. A team would be stupid to not draft him as a quarterback, much less at wide receiver, but even so, don’t expect him to go on the first day of the draft, due entirely to the bullshit politics of the NFL and the NCAA. But mark my words, Joe Webb will be playing regularly next year and starting within three. You can take that to the bank.

I never realized these guys go through a fricken triathlon to get into the NFL. That's pretty awesome.

They measure everything they can possibly think of, from hand size to intelligence. Nothing is left to question, because sometimes athletes have produced such similar stats that things like having a slightly larger wingspan or being just a little bit more intelligent than the other guy can make the difference between a couple million on a good team and a couple hundred thousand on the Detroit Lions.

Go Joe! He's a great guy, I know he can make it in the NFL. They just need to get their heads out of their ass first and see the great athlete he is.
